Kleberg Elementary School in southeast Dallas

A 9-year-old brought a pipe bomb home from school Wednesday, Dallas County deputies said.Deputies were called out to a residence in the 2800 block of South Beltline after the boy's parents discovered the device.The Dallas Police Bomb Squad arrived shortly later and safely detonated the device outside the residence.

The device was small and did not cause a large explosion, police said. They described the device as a metal coffee can containing black powder.The 9-year-old boy said he received the device from another 9-year-old boy who attends Kleberg Elementary School in southeast Dallas.Investigators are now trying to determine whether or not the boys intended to detonate the device at school.Stay tuned to NBC 5 and nbc5i.com for the latest in this developing story.
